I do think it's just his being Black. I think his upbringing, student writings, and social circles point to someone whose leanings are social democratic, anti-imperialist and pacifist. Those are just leanings though, and he is extremely constrained by America's public opinion, foreign policy and military establishments, and other political branches.

Well he isn't "black" but I get your point. I think that it starts with the idea that "blackness" is an essence and that looking different being different that's why his writings matter more than they should for after all we all grow up politically. I'm not the same person that I was at 20 (thank god) and my politics have evolved with time. My point is that Obama is a way a victim of the totalitarianism of "race" in too many societies and that makes "feel" "look" different when he is part of the good old white boys network to use a charged expression.
